  1. You forgot mosquitoes!!! Remember the mosquito nets and how one mosquito always seems to get in ….bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I would wake up with bites everywhere! LOL

  2. I never had any Gecko in my dorm but I had creepy little bed bugs that ate me away and this was NOT fun. I had to run to a pharmacy to get medicine because my arm doubled and it was so painful. It didn’t keep me from staying at hostels though! I love your drawings πŸ™‚

    1. Oh my gosh that sounds awful! I always bring like industrial strength bug spray because I get eaten alike as well. It sucks!

  3. I’ve never been to a hostel…but I did live in Florida so I know this well. I use to get woken up to frogs jumping onto the windows! I love your drawings! Such a cool idea!

  4. I loved this! You’re a talented lady. We avoid hostels wherever possible because of noise (we’re old and grumpy) but I might have to stay in them now just to experience the gecko’s!

    1. I’m only 24 but I could easily be classified as “old and grumpy” when it comes to my sleep. I’ll stay at hostels to save money but every once in a while I will get a nice private room to relax.

    1. I didn’t know that either at first until someone told me that’s what it was! It is a weird noise for sure. But as others have mentioned, not as bad as mosquitoes.

  5. I remember a night in a hotel in Chiapas, Mexico. My friend and I called it “Gecko Hotel” because of the geckos running around the walls. In the morning, though, I realized it wasn’t the geckos I needed to worry about, it was the HUGE mosquitoes that had been drinking my blood all night long. I suppose it could’ve been worse without the geckos, but as it were I could not donate blood for a year because of the malaria risk.

    1. Ew! Mosquitoes are terrible. Maybe my next post will be about that lol Seems like that the consensus here is that they are the worst. Geckos are pretty cute though.

  6. Lol!! This is one of the best blog posts I’ve come across- so creative! I actually really like the sound of the Tokay Gecko found in SE Asia. They make the funniest noises! We get such a kick out of them

  7. I am scared of lizards and thank god our hostel was awesome we did not have any πŸ™‚ Love your drawings and the way you have portrayed your thought

  8. My friend was recently travelling adn texted me that her room was full of gekos. I said I wished I could chill with some gekos and she just replied ‘YOU DON’T’ – I’m going to send her this haa!

  9. I love the unique spin on a travel blog. I’ve gotten used to geckos, but never have seen more than one at a time. I’ve mostly given up on hostels though, after realizing that my hostel in Zimbabwe was next to a nightclub.

    1. I have stayed in a few hostels that are definitely party hostels/basically nightclubs. Not fun (in my opinion) lol I like my sleep πŸ™‚

  10. Lol they make such a strange sound! Although I prefer them to snoring people, that’s the worst. And at least they don’t turn the light on or flash a torch in your face πŸ˜‰
